WIVHOGS - 2019 RE-LAUNCH!
WIVHOGS RELAUNCH – FEBRUARY 2019
WIVHOGS is pleased to announce we are coming out of
hibernation – a few months before our spiky friends! We are gearing up for the Spring and the
re-emergence of Wivenhoe’s hedgehogs, and are excited to get our 2019 projects
up and running!
Firstly, there will be the first WIVHOGS meeting of 2019 in
March – venue and date to be confirmed.
This will be an opportunity to reconnect with other members of WIVHOGS
and hopefully encourage some new faces to join and get involved. We had some very successful meetings and
discussions last year, and it is exciting to be able to work together for the
whole cycle of hedgehog activity in 2019 – from the re-emergence in the Spring
through to hibernation in the Autumn.
Secondly, we will be working on the garden connectivity
project across March and April and beyond, aiming to connect as many gardens in
Wivenhoe as possible to encourage safe habitat and travel for hedgehogs across
the whole town. The plan is to contact as
many properties in Wivenhoe as possible to create a network of hedgehog highway
holes in fences and hedging – an essential way to help hedgehogs, who need to
travel a considerable distance on a nightly basis. The provisional date for the first meeting to
get this up and running is TUESDAY 5TH MARCH, 7pm – venue to be
confirmed. This project was discussed in
October but has been delayed until the Spring for practical reasons. If you had already signed up, or are
interested in getting involved, please contact me to confirm your interest at wivhogs@gmail.com. We need volunteers!
Thirdly, the blog – wivhogs.blogspot.com
– will be reactivating and will provide regular articles and updates on
progress and projects. Please do follow
us for more information! Most importantly,
the reporting form for hedgehog sightings – dead and alive – is on the
blog. Please do use this form to give us
as much information as possible about your sightings of hedgehogs in Wivenhoe.
Finally, the Facebook page for WIVHOGS is already a bustling
group with over 100 members – this is the best place to keep up to date with
events, news and share information and ideas with other members. Please send a member request to join.
Here’s looking forward to an exciting, busy and successful
2019 for WIVHOGS, and I hope to see many of you both online in the Facebook
group and at our monthly meetings around Wivenhoe!
Best wishes,
Kirsten Morris, Founder of WIVHOGS
